How many times have you told yourself"I just don't want to do this"? It is something I hear often from several young adults that walk the halls of the school and throughout the community on a daily basis. Being young in 2016 is very difficult. The distractions that our teenagers encounter from social media to drugs and alcohol, have opened the floodgates to laziness, defeat, and confusion. Our youth is in trouble. As a teacher, mentor, and coach I try to promote a positive learning environment and atmosphere for all students and I diligently work on building relationships to help facilitate learning and positive growth within the school-wide community. It is a battle I want to win each and every day, please join me in the efforts to help our future generations get a grip on their future.
America's foundation was built upon hard work, dedication, discipline, and blue-collar values. I want our future generations to be able to succeed and surpass the current one. RIght now, I don't see it. I see an instant gratification society creeping into our younger generation. Little by little, children and teens try to find ways to become instantly famous, act out until they can get what they want, or manipulate those around them to achieve their short term desires. I know this may sound somewhat embellished, but trust me, I see it happen all the time. Everyone wants the corner office on the 23rd floor, but nobody is willing to put in the work each and every day to EARN it. We need DISCIPLINE, we need CHARACTER, and we need INTEGRITY. America needs you, she needs me, and she needs citizens that LOVE and RESPECT what she represents. Bring back ACCOUNTABILITY and RESPONSIBILITY in lives of our adolescent community and see what types of change come to light. Truthfully, this is my heart and I want to regain our society one by one, refocus the lens on life, and lead by example. Parents, this includes you! UNIFY and BELIEVE that we can and we WILL! How can you make a change? It's quite simple really, change your mindset. Start working out! Eliminate the negative that surrounds you. Start believing in yourself. If you have to cut ties with a friend that causes drama or brings you down, do it! A boyfriend or girlfriend who mistreats you, do it! You are responsible for your happiness. Protect your mind. Your mind is a valuable tool. If you fill it with senseless tv dramas, tweets, pictures, vulgar music, or any toxic substances that hinder it, you are not doing yourself any favors. If you are reading this, you have to educate your mind, protect your body, and cultivate your spirit. Your mind is a muscle, if you don't use it, you lose it. Make sure you are taking advantage of opportunities that are given to you to learn, read, practice, and utilize skills to help you become successful in ALL of your endeavors. Just wanted to share my view, thank you for your time. Robert K. Troutman February 24, 2016
